Haircut Time!

Adam really likes Austin’s hair long. I think Austin looks so handsome with it really short. Nevertheless, I let it grow out for Adam until I just can’t stand it anymore and then I buzz it. Today was the day I couldn’t stand it anymore. Here are the results.

Ballelaina

Last week we enrolled Elaina in Princess Pre-Ballet class, or if you ask Elaina, "Ballelaina" class at our community center. Elaina has always called ballerinas, "Ballelainas". She makes for such a cute Ballerina! She is really picking up on the moves and loves prancing around the house giving us demonstrations. When I went to pick Elaina up today (they don't let you stay and watch) she was the only girl that hadn't come out. So, I went in the gym to see what was going on, and there she was, still prancing and twirling around the gym. She loves it! She is such a natural.

Elaina was so excited for ballet that she laid out her outfit the night before. It's even doing her favorite pose.

Fort Huachuca

After Christmas, the kids and I went back to Arizona with Adam for a little over a week. Arizona was great! The people there were so friendly! It would be a great place to live if they had grass. While we were there, Adam was either working on his independent study class or in class so, the kids and I went to the park on base at least twice, if not more, everyday. While at the park I always ended up talking to the other parents there and it really opened my eyes to military life. The army is not just a job for these people. It really has an effect on every facet of their lives. It made me appreciate their service to our country even more and grateful that Adam is only National Guard.

While there Elaina became a sunbeam and Austin went to nursery! The nursery had 29 kids, all in one classroom!!! It was amazing! So, I think they were relieved to hear we were only visiting.

Then the kids and I flew home. It was Austin's first plane ride and Elaina's 6th or 7th. I was so nervous they would be bad, but we had a window seat and the kids just stared out the window the whole time. They were perfect!

Above is the building Adam lives in. It's not as bad inside. Below, with my new Range Rover parked in front, is where we stayed while we were visiting.

It's really small in the picture, but that blimp thing in the cloud is actually really big and hovers over Sierra Vista at all times radaring for drug trafficking.Elaina her first day in Sunbeams and Austin in nursery.

Thank goodness for little children who leave us reminders of what the Christmas season is really about. I found this set up of Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus being surrounded by the kid's animals today on the table.

The other day I was watching Austin play with a manger scene. He really gushes over the Baby Jesus and gives him lots of kisses. Austin kisses every picture of Jesus that he comes into contact with, he always has. While watching him this time with Baby Jesus it dawned on me, when Austin was really young we would show him pictures of Jesus so he would recognize him, but the love (ie. Kisses) Austin has for Jesus is something he came up with on his own. Austin only kisses pictures of family and Jesus. I really believe Austin knows exactly who Jesus is and it’s not because I taught him but instead because he remembers. I believe little children are still very close to our Heavenly Father and Jesus. I am so grateful for my little ones.

The day after Christmas we went to Aaron and Joylyn's for dinner and games. The kids had so much fun together. Austin LOVED baby Thayne. He kept trying to hug and kiss him. It was a lot of fun.

This was a really weird Christmas. Every year since I can remember I have gotten up on Christmas at 3 am sharp and all the presents are open by 6 am. This year, my internal clock once again woke me up right at 3 but this time I decided I would let everyone sleep in. We had church at 9:30 am and the kids slept in way too late for us to open presents before then. So, we really just got to see that Santa did get the kids change of address form. Santa brought Elaina a new princess bike and then we got the trike out for Austin to prevent any fighting. Grandpa Twitchell had tithing work to do after church so we had to then wait on him to open the presents. We didn't start opening presents until like 1 in the afternoon. It was so weird to have the sun up!

This year Austin was all about cars and the only thing Elaina asked for was a elephant pillow pet, but she was really excited about the bike.

After presents we got to skype Avram from Brazil. It was great seeing him!

Tonight we were able to go see a live set up of Bethlehem and see a reenactment of the Baby Jesus story and it was really nice. They had the angel that visits the Shepherds and he was like 30 feet off the ground. Elaina was so amazed by him. The highlight of the evening for Elaina was Baby Jesus. When they were reenacting the manger scene we watched, but because of the crowd we couldn’t see very well. When it was over we took the kids over to see the live camel they had there and mean while Elaina was just throwing a fit because she wanted to see Baby Jesus. She didn’t even care about the camel a couple of feet in front of her. She had her priorities straight.

Utah Trip / Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving, the kids, Grandma Twitchell, Autumn and I drove out to Utah. We went to see Alicia and her Adam because they were moving soon to Tennessee. As an added bonus, my Adam made the drive from Fort Huachuca to see us. It was a full week of visiting family, Thanksgiving and see the Temple Square lights. It was a lot fun and the time with Adam went to quick, as usual. Austin was Adam's little shadow the whole week. He's missed his daddy.

Oakland Zoo

Adam is leaving soon for Fort Huachuca, so we decided to go on a family outing to the Oakland Zoo. It was a really nice zoo. Elaina discovered that her favorite animal is a zebra and Austin liked the giant orange frogs the most. Elaina also got to see the "Lion King" and then told us all about his baby Simba and the mean lion, Scar. It was a good time.

Moving... Again

Moving... again. Moving is something our little family is very accustom to, I figured it out and in the five years Adam and I have been married we have moved 12 times and since Elaina (who is 3) was born we've changed locations 10 times. Our longest at a location was 15 months and our shortest was 3 months. 3 of our moves, Adam has lived in a separate state as the kids and I. (I do not count his moves as separate from ours.)

This last place, Thorneberry Apartments, has been the first time that we have lived in our own place since Elaina was born. We really enjoyed it! We made some great friends and really enjoyed the ward and our apartment. Now it's off to California for the kids and I, and Adam is off to Fort Huachuca in Arizona to go through military intelligence school. We are really hoping our move after this one will be a little more permanent.

Austin was not too keen on the whole packing thing. He did not like me packing things up and many boxes had to be packed multiple times because he would undo them. Often Austin would disappear and I would find him in an empty box or the cupboard. Silly little boy!

Halloween!!!

Halloween... what a day! Our lease was up that day and we were off to California the next. So the whole day was full of scrubbing and cleaning and running around town trying to make sure we could leave for California the next day. But I love Halloween and trick or treating, so we still made sure that the kids got dressed up and went out soliciting for candy. Austin was a cow this year, and Elaina was Rapunzel. Grandma Glenn made Elaina's costume. She did an amazing job! Don't be fooled by the pictures, though. They were taken at Grandma/pa Glenn's Halloween party earlier in the week. No, on Halloween we were not nearly as put together. Oh, well.

Here are our family pictures for 2011. Adam Sink took them and he did a great job! I was really happy with how many good ones we got. Our location was maybe too exciting for the kids because all they wanted to do was explore. So it was hard to get them to sit still and smile, but they are cute anyway.

Austin would not stop sqwirming so I just held him upside down. It was the only smile he gave us the whole time.

Today we went to Liberty Park for a D'Agostini Family Picnic. Liberty Park has a lot of fun things to do, but this weekend it was packed with a lot of hoodlums, so we mainly stuck around the picnic area. It was still a good time to see the extended family. Lucky for Elaina, Tyler found this fuzzy yellow caterpillar. Unfortunately, this caterpillar soon met the same fate that so many of Elaina's "best friends" meet. He was smothered with her love, but Elaina and her new friend Katie gave it a proper burial.

HeeHaw Farms

Tonight we went to HeeHaw Farms with some of Adam's family and had a ton of fun!

Our kids loved the cute little petting area. This little lamb was 4 hours old! Soooo cute!

We rode on the animal train which was fun.Elaina got to ride on a pony. She was a natural!

Snowbird

This weekend Adam had the bad misfortune of having to do a briefing at Snowbird, with which he was allowed to bring his family. Well, the kids and I did not want him to suffer alone, so we agreed to go with. It wasn't too bad. We just had to endure a hotel room that had an amazingly wonderful (working I might add) A/C unit, three catered meals and two catered snacks each day, beautiful scenery, free tram ride, 12 hours of nonstop kids and playtime for Elaina (well, that is until she got kicked out of the program for running) and lots of time with Adam while he was being paid! It was wonderful!

Adam had to brief members of the National Guard and their spouses/girlfriends who had just returned home from Afghanistan on sexual assault. Fun! The briefing lasted about 30 minutes and then him and I volunteered to help out with the youth program for the guardsmen's kids. We were put in charge of (16) 5 & 6 year olds. It was a little (more like a lot)crazy the whole time, but it was good, fun, quality time spent with Adam. Austin obviously didn't love his time spent with his age group because it was about 10 minutes before we were asked to pick him up, but he did love the attention our 11 girls gave him. They all thought he was the funniest and cutest baby in the world!

Elaina, liked I mentioned earlier, had almost made it the entire day with her age group but an hour before pick up we got the call that she was asked to stop running and did not comply therefore needed to be picked up. The second day was a complete success for Elaina, though.

It was a great weekend and nice to do something different. We're really grateful for Adam's job and the opportunities that it has given us!

Family Day in Provo

Today, Adam had the day off so, we made it a fun family day. We started the day off by giving Austin a long overdue haircut, then we took the kids down to BYU's Bean Museum to see all the animals and to BYU's dinosaur museum. The kids loved it. Elaina did not want to leave the dinosaur museum. She was able to tell us what each dinosaur was. She's so smart. Her favorite was "Sarah" the triceratops.

Today we went to Alicia's apartment to take some pictures of my little man. His hair is completely hopeless styled so I just spiked it real fast and called it good for memorie's sake. He's such a little cutie though!

Stadium of Fire!!!

I love the stadium of fire and definitely wouldn't mind it being a family tradition each year! We got to go this year and see David Archuleta! Brad Paisley was there too, but David was sooo cute! I think I had an uncontrollable smile the whole time he was on stage. Now, now, this is not a crush, I just think he is so adorable! And a great performer. Brad was amazing, too. Austin and I spent most of Brad's performance behind the bleachers dancing. Austin was a fan of the whole thing but just didn't want to sit still. So, he was either being held behind the bleachers or crying and disrupting everyone around us at our seats. Austin, as usual, won and Adam, Annette and I took turns walking Austin around. He'll be better next year.
Adam's best friend Nate got married earlier that day. The ceremony was amazing and party afterwards was a lot of fun. It all made for a jam packed fun day! Here's our family at the Stadium of Fire. Alicia and Adam were there, too.

Update on Adam at OCS

Adam has been at OCS for 3 1/2 weeks now. I still haven't been able to talk to him on the phone. Only letters. He says that OCS has been a lot harder then Basic was. He says that there is a lot of stress put on them and that there is no second chances. If you fail a challenge you are sent home the next day. He also said that they are running on about 2-5 hours of sleep each night and that his knee is killing him, which adds to the stress. His letters are pretty depressing, but he is doing amazing on all the tasks.

He passed Phase 1 which was mainly land navigation. Now he is on to phase 2. He said that this phase is 8 hours a day of lecture along with all their physical tests.

I did get a phone call the other night from one of his friends at OCS who did end up getting sent home. He told me that Adam was doing an amazing job and was making all the other candidates look bad. He said it was as if Adam was born for this stuff. He told me how great of a guy he thought Adam was and how helpful Adam was to everyone. He told me so many great things about Adam's character that I already knew, but it was great to hear others were noticing it to. He's a really great guy.

We really miss Adam but I'm really grateful that he's there and sticking this out so we can move on to the next phase. Please keep him in your prayers and pray that he will be able to fight through whatever pain his knee is giving him. He loves letters so if you have time to write him, please do. His address is:

The weather has been absolutely perfect here. Californians are soooo spoiled. We had a couple of days this week in the 70's, so glad we are here instead of Utah, right now. So, with the weather so nice we had to go to the park. Austin looked too cool in his shades not to take a picture.

No More Baby Food!

Austin has sworn off baby food! He used to eat it, but now he makes the face below everytime I try to give him any. The last week or so I have just been mashing up table food and he likes that a lot better. When Elaina was a baby she would take whatever you put in her mouth. Austin has decided he doesn't like baby food, binkies or bottles. Oh, well. He's still growing great.

The weather was so nice today so we took the kids to the park. Elaina loved chasing the other kids and Austin loved the swings. It was pretty funny though because Elaina was playing with this little boy and he was about to run past Austin and I and stopped quickly and looked up at Austin and said, "You're a red nose kid, too." And then ran off. My poor kids get bright red noses in the cold. Oh well, it's cute.

Christmas 2010

Wow, Christmas came and went so quickly this year!! I think this was the latest we ever got up for Christmas, which was at about 6:30a.m. In fact, we ended up waking the kids up because everyone else was so anxious to get started. Santa came! Elaina was so excited and opened her presents and everyone else's super fast. Sadly I couldn't find my camera so wasn't able to take any pictures but here are some of later in the day.

Everyone was playing Rock Band. Elaina was the vocalist. Elaina got really into it.

Christmas Eve

Tonight was Christmas Eve and so to keep with tradition we got pajamas. Elaina was super excited that her's had Santa on them. And then right before bed, Elaina sprinkled raindeer food (glitter and oats) on the lawn so that Santa's sleigh would make it to our house. Aaron and his family came up for the evening. It's fun to be around family during the holidays. This is Austin's first Christmas and Elaina's old enough to get excited for Christmas so tomorrow should be a fun day. Elaina's been pretty good this year so I think that Santa will come tonight.

Snow Day!

It snowed a ton last night so today was a snow day. It was a lot of fun to get out in the snow. Adam's mom helped Elaina build a snowman and she took the kids sledding. Elaina loved it outside. Austin loved the sled ride so much that he fell asleep while being pulled. Today was our last day in Utah before moving to California for a couple of months so it was fun to play in the snow before leaving it.

Austin started sitting up today for long periods of time on his own. He's growing up too fast. He's really good to sit there until he gets excited and then he flings himself back. So, we are keeping him on the bed or surrounded with pillows. This picture doesn't do him credit because he's leaning forward but all my other pictures turned out way to blurry to post. This has been happening to most of my pictures lately. Time for a new camera.

Christmas Party

We had a Christmas Party at Brooke's Saturday night and Austin and Elaina got to see Santa! Elaina loves Santa! I don't think she understands who he is exactly but she knows that you are suppose to get excited when you see him. She was pretty cute with Santa, just wanted to hang around him. Austin didn't really show any emotion one way or the other when sitting on Santa's lap. But, Austin definitely knew what to do with the presents. He got really excited about the presents and was trying to grab at the paper. He's so cute! It was a fun party. It's always fun to be with family.

Festival of Trees

Friday night we went as a family to the festival of trees. It was a lot of fun and the trees were totally amazing. Elaina loved the trees!! Some of her favorites were the Toy Story tree, Elmo tree and a tree with a bunch of cars.

Looking at these pictures makes me realize how old Elaina's getting. I feel like I am looking in the future 14 years. Such a sweetheart.

Halloween!!!

Halloween was on October 30th this year and it's too bad because it was a really rainy day. We started the day with the Roe Family Halloween Party which was a lot of fun. Elaina loved having all the kids here. Then we went to the ward trunk or treat (which was outside) and got soaked to the bone. After that we decided it was just too rainy to go trick or treating. It's okay, though. Elaina and Austin are still young enough that the trunk or treat was sufficent. I was kind of disappointed, though. I like showing the kids off and Halloween is the only time that I can truely justify having a bunch of candy in our home. Adam and I have set the candy tithe at 90% this year and sadly I have about finished my share already.

Elaina chose her costume this year. We took her to the Halloween store and the only one she wanted was Tinkerbell. She looked just like Tinkerbell, she was so cute! And she loved wearing the "green pretty". Austin had two costumes. He was a skeleton during the day and then a giraffe for trick or treating. He was the cutest little giraffe/skeleton I'de ever seen.

We went to HeeHaw Farms today with Rocky and Anthony. It was a lot of fun and had a lot of stuff for Elaina to do. We could have been there all day!

Adam and I decided that we never do anything different, so we decided at last minute to go to Mesquite for a weekend. It so happened the day after our chat, Adam was offered Nascar Truck Series tickets for Las Vegas for the weekend, so that was the excuse we needed. I had never been to Mesquite or Vegas so I was pretty exciting.

It was pretty loud once the race got started but we had head phones for Elaina and then covered Austin's ears. The people around us were so friendly. It was a really fun time.

Sunday's Walk

Sunday we went on a family walk in Provo Canyon. It was really nice and Elaina enjoyed seeing all the bike riders and kids. As I was looking through my pictures I found it kind of funny that I had documented each step in our walk. Here is how the walk played out:
Here's Austin, he got to ride in the stroller the whole time.

First, Elaina had total freedom and could ride wherever she wanted. We quickly found she liked to ride in the path of the bikers.

Second, Adam tied our doggy leesh (no we don't have a dog, this is solely used on Elaina)to Elaina's bike so he could pull her in the right direction. This worked for a long time.
Third, Elaina wanted to be the one pulling her bike. This was making out walk go way too slow, so this step didn't last very long.
Forth, Elaina upset that she couldn't pull her trike got to ride on Adam's shoulders for the rest of the walk.

Race Day

Today we got to go to Miller Motor Speedway because Adam was apart of the honor guard for the race. While Adam was doing the flag ceremony Elaina and I got to wait on pit road. It was really cool to see the cars and crews getting ready for the race. Elaina loved the cars! She kept saying, "Wow, cool!" each time a different car would start up their engines or drive past where we were standing. After the opening ceremony we went in the stands and watched a little of the race. Elaina thought it was so cool, but pretty load too, so she had her ears covered a lot of the time.

Adam and Alicia came down last weekend, so we got to hang out with them for a little bit. We went miniture golfing. I thought Elaina would love it but it got old really quick for her. She did love picking up everyone's balls after they hit them, though. I think she thought she was doing us all a favor. Oh, well. It was still a good time.

Weekend with Alicia

Last weekend our family went up to Rexburg to visit Alicia. We got to see her super nice apartment and a lot of the fun things around Rexburg. We had a ton of fun. Elaina got to play at the water park, ride the horsies (carousel), feed the ducks and play at the park. We also went and saw the temple and the gardens around BYU Idaho. It was a lot of fun and great to see Alicia.

Okay, I am going to try and get back into my blog, but two kids are so time consuming so I will have to see what I can do.
Quick update: Austin decided to wait until Adam got home from basic training before he made his arrival. He didn't need to wait an extra 9 days, but it was good that Elaina had some only child time with Adam for those days.
Austin Basilio D'Agostini was born July 19th and was 8lb 7oz and 20.5in long and perfect! Labor was horrible, but Austin has been a great baby! He is 4 weeks old today. Elaina loves him... but does sometimes get jealous if he's taking too much mommy and daddy time. I think Adam and I still are in shell shock at how much work two kids are, but we are learning and getting better at it each day.

Elaina's First Haircut

Elaina got her first haircut today. I know. She should have gotten a haircut a year ago but I've been putting it off. We took her to cookie cutters and for the most part she did really good. She didn't mind getting her hair cut, the problem was taking her away from the slide they had at the entrance. She just wanted to play with the kids, so needless to say she wouldn't sit in the cars they have for the haircut chairs. Adam was a good sport and held her the whole time.
Elaina's hair guy was really nice and good with Elaina. He trimmed all her hair and then layered the back so that her curls would be fuller. Her hair is still rail straight in the front, though. But Elaina's hair looks so much better!

Hoggle Zoo

Adam had spring break this week so we decided to take Elaina to Hoggle Zoo. It was kind of a hit. The animals weren't very active so Elaina wasn't too interested in most of them. Her favorites were the monkeys and the boars (because they were putting on the best show). We did come away with Elaina being able to tell us what a monkey says, so... it was a successful learning experience. I thought the baby elephant was so cute!

We are going to be having a little boy! We are so excited! Adam was just beaming when the ultrasound guy was pointing out to us that our baby was a boy. And the baby is perfect; everything is growing right and everything is in the right place. It's a relief to know that we have been blessed with a girl and now a boy. We are so excited for this baby to come! So far, Adam would like to name our baby boy Basilio Austin D'Agostini (BAD'A). This name isn't really sticking with me, but I will let everyone know when we do decide on a name.

P.S. Basilio was the first relative on the D'Agostini side to come to America from Italy.

Update on Elaina's Owee

Elaina got her stitches out on Monday and it was once again quite the dramatic experience for her. She now has liquid stitches on for the next seven days. She no longer has to wear a band aid all the time so Elaina isn't scared of her reflection in the mirror anymore. She's smiling again at herself, so that is a good thing. Her owee still looks pretty sad but the doctor was happy with how it looked, so I will trust the doctor's confidence and be more optimistic. As the days go it is looking better, though. She's still the cutest!

Family Night!

Last night was family night and what an exciting night it was. Elaina was climbing up to our computer, like she has done a million times before. This time she was digging for something in the desk drawer and then the drawer collapsed taking Elaina down with it. Elaina cut her cheek pretty good so we took her to the urgent care center.

Elaina didn't cry too much when she got hurt and was having a great time playing in the waiting room, but when it came to the stitches it was a different story. So that she couldn't move too much the doctor wrapped her mummy style in a sheet and then I layed across Elaina's bottom half and Adam layed cross her chest and had his hand on Elaina's head so she couldn't move it. There was also a nurse holding down Elaina's head and then the doctor. Elaina's cheek was numbed before the stitches, but it was done by a shot so it was pretty dramatic for her. Elaina had a hard time during the interior stitches. At one point Adam started singing "Popcorn Popping" to Elaina and she stopped crying until the song was over. Luckily, I had a bottle and was allowed to give it to Elaina while she was getting put back together. The bottle got Elaina to sleep right in time for the exterior shots to start. She slept through that part.She ended up getting a few internal stitches, I wasn't watching so am not sure how many, and then got 6 exterior stitches.

Poor baby girl. She was so brave through it all, so was Adam, thank goodness. I wasn't quite so brave; it was really hard seeing Elaina like that. Today she is still pretty swollen on her left cheek but I don't think she's in pain. She also has a cut on her forehead and two scratches by her left eye. We are so lucky that her injuries weren't worse. She's still the prettiest little girl in the world and the doctor doesn't think it will scar.

Elaina's face was numb the rest of the night. This is her saying "cheese" for the camera with only half her mouth working.

Adam Joined the Utah National Guard

Adam joined the Utah National Guard today! He signed up for the next 6 years. He is going to be in Military Intelligence as an Officer.

Adam approached me with the idea a while ago and I immediately shut it down. It's something he's wanted to do for a long time and when we started looking at prospective jobs in his desired career path they all wanted military experience. So, after researching it out, praying, fasting and going to the temple with whether or not this was the right direction for our family, I was blessed pretty quickly with the reassurance that this choice would be okay for our family. Being reassured that the military was the right path for our family didn't make the decision easier for me, because in the next few months Adam will spend a lot of time away from our family. It makes me sad to think about everything he will miss out on with Elaina and now with our baby on the way, but I feel good about our decision and know that the distance will only make us stronger.

It has now been over 15 weeks since our decision. In that time Adam has been doing paper work, physicals and everything else nessesary to get us to today when he can be sworn in. I'm so proud of Adam. He is a great father, husband and provider. Adam will serve our country well. I'm proud of the decisions he's made for our family. I know that there is a chance that Adam could be deployed but I don't think about that. I will deal with it when it might come.

As for now Adam is leaving for Basic Training in Georgia April 27th and will return home July 6th. Right in time for our baby's due date of July 15th. We like to be on our toes and do things the hard way in our family. I'm sure everything will work out just fine. It's an exciting time for our family.

Elaina's Going to be a Big Sister!!!

Elaina's going to be a big sister! I am pregnant and due July 15th. It seems so far away, but I know it will sneak up on us soon enough. We are so exciting to be adding to our family. I have already heard the heart beat and felt the baby kick. Elaina was a night owl when I was pregnant with her; this baby likes to play in the morning. Everything is right on track and looking great. My morning sickness wasn't too bad, but even still, I am greatful that it is over. Exciting times for our family!

I tried a new recipe the other night that was really yummy, especially for this cold weather! It's a lot of ingredients but it was actually really easy to make. Try it out! I think you will all love it!

WHITE CHILI

Ingredients:
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts (I used one chicken breast and it was plenty)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small white onion, diced
6 to 8 small garlic cloves, minced
1 (7-ounce) can diced green chiles, drained
2 (15-ounce) cans white beans,undrained
4 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/2 to 1 teaspoon cayenne
1 cup sour cream, plus additional for topping
2 1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Chopped fresh cilantro
Chopped tomatoes

1. Cook the chicken by the desired method. Cool and tear into pieces.
Set aside.

2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic,
and cook and stir until the onion is translucent, 2 to 3 minutes. Add
the chicken, chiles, beans, broth, chicken bouillon, cumin, oregano, and
cayenne. Simmer 30 to 45 minutes. Chili can be made ahead to this point
and refrigerated or frozen for serving later.

3. Add the 1 cup sour cream and cheese, and continue cooking until the
cheese is melted. Keep warm until serving.

4. Serve in bowls and pass cilantro, tomatoes, and additional sour cream.

Elaina lost her toe nail over the Christmas break. The whole toe nail fell off but luckily it had already mostly grown back underneath the dead one. The last days with her old toe nail were pretty grim. Just in case you wanted to know.

It's been awhile since I posted something but I thought that I might put up some of the highlights of this Christmas. It was a lot of fun! We went to California to visit my parents. It was so much fun seeing Elaina with my side of the family, especially seeing her with her cousin Landon. They were so cute together!! Here's a little of what we did this holiday season:
Elaina saw Santa and loved him. She even said ho ho to him as we were leaving.
One of Elaina's favorite things to do is chase bubbles. She learned the word bubble while in California. We did bubbles a lot!
Another thing Elaina did a lot of were wagon rides. Here is grandma and grandpa Twitchell taking Elaina and Landon for a ride.
Elaina also loved baby Lena. Elaina just liked to watch her. Lena's so cute!

Owee Update

Elaina still has an owee from dropping a Progresso Soup Can on her foot. I'm 100% sure that it doesn't hurt her but whenever Elaina sees her black toe she has to let us know that it is an owee and that it requires several kisses. New Phone, Maybe?

So, Christmas is coming up and I already know what I am getting. I will be getting a new fuel pump for our car from Adam, so that we can make it out to California for Christmas, and Elaina is getting me a new cell phone. A couple of weeks ago Elaina decided that my phone was old and so picked off the numbers and key pad. It's been pretty hard/impossible to dial with the phone and I have missed several phone calls because I couldn't dig into the phone hard enough for it to answer. Elaina, also, threw my phone awhile back and blew out the speakers so now most of my conversations echo or break in and out. But, if you know me, you know that I need an excuse like Christmas to go out and spend the money on a new phone, when mine still technically works. Adam thinks I should up grade to an i-phone. Ha!! Could you imagine the damage Elaina could do to an i-phone.

I got to go see New Moon last night at the 9:50 showing! I guess Utah got permission to show it earlier then the usual midnight show. It was so much fun! I've always been a team Edward person, but after the movie I'm wondering why Bella didn't change her mind and go for Jacob. He looked good! We took her trick or treating and she got the hang of taking the candy from people and putting it in her bucket really quickly. It was so much fun to show her off. She's so cute! Today was Elaina's first day in the nursery. As I suspected, she had no problem with us leaving her. She went straight to the kids and the toys as soon as we got her into the nursery. Adam and I tried to get her to at least wave goodbye to us but there was way too much fun going on to acknowledge us. When Adam went to pick her up he said that she was still playing with toys. Nursery was a hit. I must admit though, I missed her. I kept watching my classroom door to see if she would be brought in to me but she never was. I miss her, but it will be nice to start getting something out of church again.

Elaina learned the word owee last night. Her favorite cupboard is the canned food one. Last night she dropped a progresso soup can (the big cans) on her toe, which has cause it to turn a nice shade of dark purple :( It was a pretty dramatic experience for her and a pretty rough night for us all. Even though the situation was pretty sad it was still really cute to see her point to her toe and say "owee." Her toe got lots of kissies. It was also sad/cute because she walked around the whole night with a limp. Poor baby.

I loved this month's relief society message. One quote really hit me harder then the others. I liked President Hinkley's quote where he said: "Never forget that these little ones are the sons and daughter's of God and that yours is a custodial relationship to them, that He was a parent before you were parents and that He has not relinquished His parental rights or interest in these His little ones.."
This really makes me look at my role as a parent in a whole different light. I am taking care of one of Heavenly Father's elect children, and she really is that special. She's so cute! It also makes me look at my relationship to Heavenly Father in a different light, also. "He has not relinquished His parental rights;" I knew that, but hearing it this way makes it feel more powerful. Thank goodness for the gospel which blesses us with the knowledge of our heritage. Such a cute outfit!

Thanksgiving Point

Our family went to Thanksgiving Point tonight with Brooke, Aaron, Jared, Lindsey and Rocky. It was so much fun! They had so many different things to do. It was a little cold but chasing around Elaina really helped warm things up.
There was an area where you could have tracker races. It was a lot harder to get the trackers to move then expected, so this activity was short lived. Here's Elaina being a little farmer. Here's Elaina and Adam on a huge rocking chair. One of Elaina's favorite part of the park was of course the slides! She loved them. They were pretty fast. When she went down by herself she was like a little bullet. The catcher had to react quickly.
The boys really got into this duck race. It was meant for little kids.

The highlight of the evening was the corn maze. It was only suppose to take us 30 minutes but it took us so much longer then that. It was a lot of fun. Elaina had to be the leader for most of the time. She loved it! Here's Adam and I chasing after Elaina in the corn maze. She's such hot stuff. If Elaina felt she had a spare second or two she would start dancing. At this particular moment she had quite the audience watching her dance. She likes to show off her moves. I like to show them off too. Her little wiggle is so cute.

Couponing!!

My newest hobby is couponing. I love it! It is like a game to me; to see how many things I can get for free and how much money I can save my family. I started couponing towards the end of July and since then have easily tripled my food storage, bought mostly namebrand foods, and have made better meals, all while cutting my monthly food budget in half. It's been a lot of fun. I don't normally take pictures of my shopping trips but this was my first shopping trip with coupons and I was so excited about the outcome that I had to document the moment. This particular shopping trip I made money! With all the cereal I bought I was able to send in for a $10 rebate and with my coupons I made $2.32. It was great.
Here's another great shopping trip. I got all of the items below (plus a bag of reese's that didn't make it to the picture) for free (except for tax)! The original total was $31 but after coupons, I only had to pay for the tax which was $1.62.

I've had several other great shopping trips. It's been a lot of fun and truely a blessing for our family. With Adam taking 20 credit hours at school and then working every hour in between to support our family, I often feel bad for not being able to relieve him of some of that burden. Being able to save so much through couponing and budgeting has really helped me feel like I'm helping out our family as well. Thank you to everyone who has donated their coupons to me. I really appreciate them, they really have been a huge blessing to our family.

Dare Devil

I went into the kitchen to put something away and when I got back this is what I found. I'm not sure how she got up there with the distance between the desk and the chair she was on.

Elaina recently has become more aware as to what she is wearing. She loves to walk around in my shoes and wear jewelry. That's all great, but this past week we stocked up on winter clothes and shoes. We got her two new pair of shoes. One pair she loves and the other she hates. It is so funny. She kicks and screams whenever I try to put the one pair on. The other pair she gives her "ohhh" of approval. She thinks she's a teenager already.

Yesterday was the Mustang Car Show in Park City. Adam's dad had a Boss 302 in the show and Elaina's pretty pink mustang was transformed into a mini replica of the Boss. It was the hit of the show. It was probably, by far, the most photographed car at the show. Everyone thought it was so cute. Elaina's car won the Kid's Choice Award. We were really excited. Too bad Elaina wasn't feeling well enough to enjoy all the excitement.

Quincy Trip!

This past week and a half Elaina and I went with my family back to Quincy, Illinois. It was so much fun and good to be back. The midwest is so pretty, I had forgotten that.
Nauvoo Temple. It was amazing!

We went to Nashville, TN and saw the Grand Ole Opry House. The people in Tennessee were so nice.
A very cool hotel in Nashville. They had waterfalls and plants everywhere. I took note for what I want Adam to build me one day.
Memphis, TN. There was a hotel in Memphis that treat these five ducks very well. During the day the ducks stay in the lobby fountain. In the morning they have a "duck master" that walks them to the fountain and then at night he walks them back to their penthouse on the hotel roof. We watched the duck walk from the fountain to the elevator. It was pretty humorus the attention these ducks got.

Adam wants Elaina to have a pink mustang power wheels so bad. He thinks they are so cool. I let Elaina try it out and she agrees with Adam. Power Wheels may be cool but not cool enough for the $300 price tag. She does look cute in it, though. She is so smart. She knew to turn the stearing wheel and the dials on the radio. I don't know how she knows these things. She's amazing.

This past weekend we took a family trip to Moab, UT. Our camp site was on the Colorado River. It was so pretty. It was so much fun but so HOT and DIRTY! Elaina really loved the dirt part of it, though. On Saturday, Adam and I went river rafting with his family. I absolutely loved it. River rafting is probably one of my favorite things to do. It was so nice to get away from it all and spend time with family.

Yellowstone!

While we were up visiting Alicia in Rexburg we went to Yellowstone. I had never been there before so it was really cool. Yellowstone is so pretty. My favorite parts were the waterfalls. They were amazing, but my fear of heights was definitly at a peak on some of the look outs. Sadly, it rained pretty much the whole time we were there, and it was really cold. Because it was so cold, us kids took every oppurtunity we could to be in the steam from the boiling springs and mudd pots. The hot springs looked very inviting. I think one of the coolest spots was the Dragon's Cave, or something like that. It was a little cave that was making a really loud hissing noise but because of all the steam, you couldn't tell what was going on in the cave. It was kind of scary, which made it pretty cool. All in all, the trip was a lot of fun. And Elaina was such a good girl to go in and out of her car seat so many times.

Miniture Golfing in Idaho

While in Rexburg, visiting Alicia, we went miniture golfing. It was raining, but it was so much fun. Elaina slept for about half of the game and then woke up right in time to help for the second half. She knew exactly what to do with the golf clubs.

Mountain Man Rondezous

Today we went to visit Susan and Warren at the Mountain Man Rondezous outside of Ogden, UT. It was something I had never experienced before but it was a lot of fun and it was fun to see how things were done several years ago. It made me very thankful that I am alive now instead of then. Adam thought I would be weirded out by all the costumes and characters there, and though I admit seeing men in just loin clothes was interesting, the weirdest part for me was seeing people carrying around guns and knives. The people dressed up like Indians were probably the most interesting crowd to watch; they were pretty scantily clad and were drinking a lot. There were two types of people there: those who were intrigued by the history of it and enjoy getting away from all the hussle and bussle of everyday life and then those who just wanted an excuse to get drunk. Adam and his brothers love the game Madden 94. It's way old school and really boring, but whatever. Tyler came over the other night to play. Elaina wanted to join in on the fun. Elaina had her 1 year old birthday party tonight with Adam's family. It was a lot of fun. We opened presents and then had cake. No one in Adam's family likes cake so it was all for Elaina. She thought it was pretty fun to dig into it. At first she kind of looked at me like, "Is this okay," but then got pretty into it. At one point she got a taste of the cake and then from there on out she tried to eat it. Afterwards, she got a bath. The night was a lot of fun.

This past year has gone by so quickly and I just don't know where it all went. Elaina was born a year ago today at 8:21 a.m. She weighed 8 lbs 2 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. It's so amazing how much she has grown and learned since then.
Elaina is so full of life and personality now. She has so many signature characteristics like: her dance moves, her kisses, her hugs, her smiles, her laugh, her curiousity, her independence, her jibberish, her occasional diva attitude, her attempts at being helpful. She is such a sweet baby girl! Adam and I don't go a day without being greatful that our Heavenly Father has blessed our lives with Elaina. She is perfection and the greatest joy of our lives.
